Next up is the Khrone Bloodbound. Going to do these similar to the box art, but with a few colour changes.
Priming
So with these guys I decided to go with a black base coat, a lot of the base colours are going to look best over a black undercoat.Base Colours
Skin
So to start with I decided to do the various skin tones on the models. The skin covers a large area or the model and is a prominent part of their visuals.
There were 3 basic colours here mixed with the following ways.
All 3 were made with Kislev Flesh at a 50/50 mix with
1.Bugmans Glow
2.Nagroth Night
3.Pink Horror
This gave me my 3 tones to start basing the skin with.
After this I created a wash using a 30/60/10 mix of Khorne Red, Druchi Violet Wash and Lahmian Medium.
I applied this all over the minis, which gave a very red, raw, mutated and demonic flesh tone. However I felt it came out too red so I would recommend using slightly less of the khorne Red.Other Items
Everything else was then base coated in a similar fashion.Metal - Leadbelcher
Wood/Leathers - Rhinox Brown
Hair/Cloth - Abbadon Black
Trousers - Incubi Darkness
Cloth Wraps on legs, Fur, Bone - Baneblade Brown
Layering
With the layering we are going to start by making a glaze of Incubi Darkness for the trousers. We want to apply thin coats around raised areas of the fabric, getting smaller and smaller as we apply further coats.
After this we will add some bronze sections to the metals aswell as highligh the edges of the blades in Runefang Steel to make them look sharper than the rest of the metal. I will also add a few highlights to some of the armor edges.
From this step we can go ahead and add in some detailing to the armor plates. Again using a glaze of khorne red, the shin armor and shoulder pads are going to be given a glaze moving towards the center as we progress in layers. Finally I will add a small white highlight with a stippled effect to the very edge of the plates to indicate a "worn" effect.Detailing
We are going to add in some skin highlights using a lighter version of the skin tones we created by applying either a white, or a light flesh tone, the choice is up to you. We will then highlight any leather with a lighter brown colour such as Doombull brown and use a grey to create highlight points to the hair on several units.I also took this moment to finish any skulls on the units with Screaming Skull white and applied the same white to the eyes and teeth of the models, followed by Pink horror for the tongues and Khorne red for the pupils of the eye. I then washed the faces with aggrax earthshade to knock back some of the pureness in the white.
At this point we can also begin to add blood effects to the units.
I start by using a red wash, something like Carroburg Crimson around any scars or wounds to redden the areas. Then I used Valejjo's Dried and Wet blood to build up some blood effects, followed by Citadels Blood for the Blood Gods.
This same technique was used on the edges of all weapons.
Finally I took a straw, applied blood for the blood god to one end, and then lightly blew in bursts down the straw to create a "bloodsplatter" effect across the models, which gives us that raw barbarian, blood for the blood god, carnage feel to the miniatures.
Finally the bases were painted with a sandy colour such as Deathclaw Brown, washed with Aggrax earthshade. The skulls were based with Zandri dust and then painted over with Screaming Skull and blood effects were applied to the base.
The final minis came out looking like the following.
Any questions or comments feel free to ask and I will endeavour to answer them for you. Up next are the 3 Stormcast Eternal units from the Shadespire Base Game.
